Itinerary on the 8-Day Lares Trip to Machu Picchu

Day 1: Arrive in Cusco

Your guide meets you at the airport and accompanies you to the hotel to help you check in.

Relax after your flight.

Day 2: City Tour Cusco

Depart for Cusco, high (10,856 ft.) in the Andes.

Day 3: Sacred Valley Tour

Wander through the crafts market at Chinchero and explore the community’s beautiful church built in the early 1600s.

See the ancient Inca terraces at Moray. Many think these terraces served as an ancient Inca agricultural laboratory.

Lunch at Salinas de Maras. The Incas diverted water to form thousands of pools where a thin crust of salt remains as the sun evaporates the water.

Day 4: Cusco – Pumahuanca – Puyoc Village

We leave early in the morning to Sacred Valley of the Incas (Pumahuanca) where you start hiking all the way up the valley to get the first lunch place, covering approx 14 km in total, along the way there is a small Inca site to explore, native plants, spectacular rocky sharpy mountains and a small crystalline stream along the hike to get the campsite Puyoc.

Day 5: Puyoc – Yanacocha Lake – Cuncani Village

After breakfast, we start ascending for three hours to reach the highest point of the expedition Siclla Qasa pass at 4850m – 15,682 ft. After the summit you start going down to the lunch spot Yanacocha lake. Today you see beautiful sceneries, landscapes, andean lakes, potato fields and local people dressed in their traditional bright red clothing. The campsite is going to be close to a small Quechua village Cuncani.

Day 6: Cuncani Village – Lares Hot springs – Aguas Calientes

After organic breakfast, you only hike in the morning focusing to meet local Quechua people, see typical andean huts and Llamas on the way to the hot springs that takes you in 2 hours. After enjoying the hot springs comes the lunch, therefore since the hot springs the trip is easier because you take bus to Ollantaytambo, then train to Aguas Calientes to spend the last night in a hotel before to visit Machu Picchu

Day 7: Machu Picchu “The wonder of the world”. (B)

The tours starts very early in the morning to take the first bus up to Machu Picchu to visit the citadel. The guided tour in Machu Picchu lasts 2 hour, during this tour you will explore the most important temples of the citadel. After the guided tour you have free time to walk around the site by yourself. In the afternoon you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo where you will carry on by bus to Cusco city.

Day 8: Rainbow Mountain Peru Hike

You will need to wake up early to enjoy this natural marvel at its best. At 4:00 am, we’ll pick you up directly from your hotel to start our ride to the south of Cusco through beautiful landscapes of valleys and agricultural communities. First we will drive for around 2 hours to to the town of Cusipata (3,329m / 12,772 ft.) where we will have an energizing breakfast

After breakfast in Cusipata we will continue our trip by van, following a beautiful way between the mountains, accompanied by our first views of Ausangate, highest peak of Cusco. Along the way we will pass through herds of hundreds of alpacas and llamas and the occasional shepherd or local people moving about their daily andean activity

Our ascent will begin in Quesiuno and last about 2 hours, bringing us to our final destination and highest point on our Rainbow Mountain Trek (or Vinicunca trek), at 5,020 mts / 16,470 ft. Once we arrive at the top of Rainbow Mountain, you will have enough time to absorb the majesty of the red mountains that surround this area. You will also see amazing views of the valleys and Ausangate Glacier Peak in front of you.


Ausangate is the tallest mountain of the Cusco region (just under 21,000 ft elevation), and is part of the Cordillera Vilcanota Range. While taking in these magnificent views, our staff will bring you some hot drinks and share some information with you about the composition of these mountains and how they became striated in the rainbow of colors.

After taking a few amazing pictures and soaking in the views (perhaps we will even see a few condors flying on the air currents), we will begin our descent with a one and half hour, downhill hike to Quesiuno. There our transport will be waiting to take us to restaurant in cusipata where we enjoy an energizing lunch. Finally we return back to Cusco city arriving at approximately 5pm.

Day 9: Transfer to the Airport (B)

After breakfast we will transfer you to the airport.
